Vee Severs-Choate Advisors’ AwardThe Vee Severs-Choate Advisors’ Award was initiated in 2002 in honor of the life and service of Vivian “Vee” Severs-Choate, who died unexpectedly in an automobile accident in December of 2001. Vee was the Student Activities Coordinator at St. Petersburg Junior College-Clearwater Campus from 1986 to1998 and served as the State Advisor for FCSSGA from 1993 to 1998. She was inducted into the FCCAA Hall of Fame in October 2001. Vee stepped into the role of FCSSGA State Advisor at a time when the organization was in need of reorganization and advancement. As State Advisor, Vee spearheaded the change from two State Conferences per year to one and implemented the Fall District Leadership Retreats; formalized the FCSSGA Advisors’ Association, providing assistance to old and new advisors alike; initiated the annual Summer Advisors’ Workshop for professional development; and worked diligently to promote the service and positive impact SGA advisors have on the lives of the students they work with. Through her efforts, Vee earned the respect of not only her activities and leadership development colleagues but also of college presidents and top-level student affairs administrators statewide. Her service to FCSSGA and impact on the organization is immeasurable.
In the spirit of Vee’s efforts to promote the dedicated service of SGA advisors, the Vee Severs-Choate Advisors’ Award is for advisors, from advisors; nominations will only be accepted from advisors. It will be given each year to an SGA advisor, nominated by his or her advisor peers, who has provided distinguished service to his or her colleagues in the FCSSGA Advisors’ Association and in the role of advisor and mentor to student leaders in the Florida College System. Like the person whose name graces the award, the deserving candidate should exemplify perseverance, character, and hope. Submission window opens: February 13, 2026
