Student Government Student of the Month: February

Student Government Student of the Month: February

Congratulations to our other Student Government Student of the Month for February... Karlee Anderson from Florida SouthWestern State College! Karlee was nominated by her advisor, Michael Mears. Here is what Michael shared with us about Karlee:

"Since joining SGA last fall, Karlee has made a real impact on campus and in Student Government. She stepped into the Vice President role right away and quickly became a dependable and proactive member of our team. She leads two committees, Marketing and Initiatives, keeping her teams organized, motivated, and on track while making sure everyone’s voice is heard. One of her standout achievements was helping to coordinate a successful campus drive for children in need. She didn’t just handle the logistics, she got students involved, coordinated volunteers, and made the project feel meaningful for everyone participating. She also represented FSW at the Lee County delegation meeting, giving our student body a voice in local decision-making and showing how much she cares about student advocacy. Beyond SGA, she’s part of FSW’s Honors Scholar Program, balancing a rigorous academic schedule with her leadership responsibilities. On top of all that, she’s played a big role in building community within SGA, helping both new and returning members feel included and supported. Her dedication and initiative have led to stronger team collaboration, successful programs, and more students actively involved. She’s raised the profile of Student Government on campus and strengthened the connection between students and the broader community.

Karlee demonstrates leadership through how she engages with people and situations, not just through her accomplishments. She is tactful and sensitive in delicate situations, taking the time to listen, understand, and respond in a way that respects everyone involved. At the same time, she steps up confidently in urgent situations that require clear direction, balancing decisiveness with thoughtfulness. She fosters collaboration within SGA by recognizing the strengths and personalities of her team members and guiding them to work together effectively. She encourages open communication, ensures all voices are heard, and helps her peers grow in their own leadership roles. Beyond campus, she actively seeks opportunities to learn from others, collaborating with students from other institutions and past SGA leaders to explore best practices in organizational leadership. She brings those lessons back to SGA, helping improve how the team functions and how projects are managed. Her leadership is defined by empathy and action. She adapts to each situation, knowing when to lead from the front and when to support quietly from behind the scenes. Through her approach, she builds trust, motivates others, and strengthens student government, leaving a lasting impact on both individuals and the broader community."

Congratulations, Karlee! Thank you to Mr. Mears for nominating her for this recognition!
