Congratulations to another of our FCSSGA Students of the Month for February... Jada Watkins from Miami Dade College! Jada was nominated by TWO of her advisors, Nicole Bryant and Aida Varela.
Here is what Nicole and Aida told us about Jada: "Jada has been an active member of the Miami Dade College (MDC) Homestead Campus -TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) program for the past two years. She has been the President of the Young Money Club, which aims to extend TRIO SSS services to all students on campus. She has spent countless hours organizing and helping to prepare projects and developing her leadership skills mentoring other students. Because of Jada’s leadership and commitment, she was awarded the “Best All-Around” Award through the MDC Homestead Campus 2019-2020 Student Life Recognitions. Jada has also been actively involved in community service by volunteering at the STEM LAB on campus for countless hours and participating in the Up to Us campaign to educate students about the importance of student debt. Because of all her volunteer work in our community, she was recognized with the Bronze Level Presidential Volunteer Service Award for the 2019-2020 academic year. Lastly, because of her excellent academic performance, Jada was invited to join the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
Jada has several leadership roles in various clubs and organizations where she has demonstrated her skills. As the President of the Young Money Club, she has
communicated with guest speakers to invite them to our monthly GPS (Goal + Plan= Success) Talks. These talks are facilitated by faculty/staff members of our community and they share the story of their accomplishments and how they came to be where they are today. Jada also serves as a Senator for our Student Government Association, where she has collaborated with other officers and voted on numerous issues that have impacted the quality of student life events on campus. In addition, Jada is the Corresponding Secretary for the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at MDC – Homestead Campus, where she is responsible for communicating to all members so that everyone is constantly aware of any upcoming events or deadlines. Lastly, in her work as a volunteer tutor, Jada has been helping students master academic materials such as Chemistry. She has supported several students in the Intro to Chemistry classes and as a result, they were able to successfully pass the class. Everything that Jada has been doing on campus has made our community better and stronger."
What an honor it is to recognize not only one but two exceptional students as our SGA Division Students of the Month. Thank you to Nicole and Aida for nominating Jada for this award!
