Congratulations to our SGA Student of the Month for September... Pedro Sanchez from Indian River State College! Pedro was nominated by his advisor Janneth Delva!
Here's what she had to say about Pedro:
"This year’s Leadership Award was presented to Pedro Sanchez from Okeechobee. While working toward his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology at IRSC, Pedro at one time took classes at three different campuses so that he could learn face-to-face in a classroom environment, rather than take some courses online. He also serves as the Student Government Association President, a college ambassador, Chair of the Student Life Committee, a peer educator, and a member of the Campus Safety Task Force. As a peer educator he worked closely with the SEAL Team to mentor and educate students about the people, resources, and opportunities available at IRSC while facilitating workshops in leadership programs and representing students at special events. Pedro began his higher education journey at IRSC as a dual-enrolled student, with support from the College’s Farmworker Career Development Program, a planned program of vocation and on-the-job training, work experience, job placement assistance, and basic education. He has graduated from all three IRSC leadership programs—the National Society of Leadership and Success, Emerging Leaders, and Legacy Leaders.
Pedro's motivation to ensure he is always doing the best job he can has always been able to share with students the transformative experience he’s had and encourage students to have the same experience, if not, an even better experience. He is always polite and respectful to everyone he meets. This is Pedro’s second year in SGA and we have doubled our attendance at events with his leadership. He is such an inspiration to everyone that he encounters and respects him as a peer and friend. While working towards his bachelor's degree in biology Pedro has filled several different shoes. During the start of his college career, he worked tirelessly as SGA Secretary for the IRSC Executive Board. It was his earnest efforts as secretary that caught the attention of our Campus Ombudsman, Rochelle Popp-Finch, and Vice President of Student Affairs, Frank Watkins who both thought he would be perfect for the position with several students and board members in agreeance. After an impressive first year as president, there was no doubt, he should return and is currently completing his second term. While his college career continues to bloom, Pedro consistently exceeds expectations when it comes to his passion for getting involved. Despite his busy schedule, he completed all of IRSC’s Leadership Programs: Emerging Leaders, Legacy Leaders, and National Society of Leadership and Success. He received the Leadership Award from campus president of IRSC Dr. Timothy Moore last year due to maintaining amazing leadership and academic performance in our college. His “Listen First, Speak Second” moto makes him the most suitable for his role and allows for his teammates to become better student leaders because of his presence. Congratulations Pedro and thank you for all the demanding work that you do. Your team loves you!"
Congratulations, Pedro!! Thank you to Ms. Delva for nominating him!
