Say hello to our Student Government Division Student of the Month for December, Santana Khan from Florida SouthWestern State College Collier Campus! Santana was nominated by her advisor, Linda Johnsen.
Here's what we learned about Santana: Santana currently serves as SGA Vice President at FSW's Collier Campus and previously served as SGA Senator. During her tenure thus far, she helped increase participation in the organization and developed and supported initiatives that make the campus a welcoming and engaging environment. In addition to holding the responsibilities of Vice President, she also is an active member of the Honors Program and was recognized both on campus and college-wide for her contributions to the program. Santana consistently seeks opportunities to develop her leadership skills. She participated in FSW's Leadership Academy to become a certified Emerging Leader. As a member of FCSSGA, she completed the FCSSGA FLT program within a year. At FSW, Santana co-founded the Social Justice Union which aims to educate the campus community on social inequities and practices of inclusivity by developing partnerships within the local community. Through all her involvement, Santana still manages to be a dedicated student and maintain a 4.0 GPA.
In addition to her involvement and leadership on campus, Santana is also heavily involved in the local community itself. Santana received the United States Congressional Award Gold Medal for her commitment and service to her community. She founded and became President of several educational organizations, including Teen Science Group and HOSA: Future Health Professionals chapter. Santana was also elected as President of the HOSA Sunset Region and received the Sunset Region Fold Medal for placing first in the HOSA Behavioral Health competitive event. She also is a volunteer attorney through Collier Teen Court Intervention program. Lastly, for the past three years, Santana has virtually tutored a fourth-grade student. Santana's passion for her community and helping others is undeniable.
Congratulations to this outstanding student and our thanks to Ms. Johnsen for taking the time to nominate her!
