We are beginning this week with SOTM! Congratulations to the FCSAA Publications Student of the Month for September...Xiu Hau from Miami Dade College - Eduardo J. Padrón Campus! Xiu was nominated by her advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here is why Sendin thought Xiu should be recognized for this award: "Xiu is a second year mass communications Honors College student at the Miami Dade Padrón Campus' Dual language program. She was part of Urbana Literary & Arts magazine editorial staff last year, spending long hours meticulously editing volume 14, and emerged as one of the clear choices for co-editor-in-chief. She is now leading the Urbana staff in the creation of our quinceañera volume, working behind the scenes throughout the summer to ensure a smooth transition for the new staff. Her work ethic and creativity are inspiring and motivational; Urbana is off to a great start with Xiu at the helm.
In addition to her contributions to Urbana, Xiu is an engaged scholar in her community. She has participated in Amnesty International’s annual Write for Rights campaign and The Women’s Creast Cancer and Heart Initiative. Xiu is currently a Humanities Edge tutor for the newly established ENC 1101 writing tutoring program on campus. She has been recently selected to participate in Global Solutions Conversations, an initiative from the State Department and Stevens Institute to partake in binational conversations with students from Komar University of Science and Technology in Iraq. Xiu is a committed and self-motivated student, and Urbana and her campus community are lucky to have her as a leader."
Again, congratulations to our Publications SOTM, Xiu, and thank you to Emily Sendin for nominating her for this award!
