Congratulations to the FCSAA Publications Division Student of the Month for February… Ashlie Rodriguez from Miami Dade College Eduardo J. Padron Campus! Ashlie was nominated by her advisor, Emily Sendin.
Here’s what Emily shared with us about Ashlie: “Ashlie has been an Urbana staff member since Fall 2020. She wrote and produced a screenplay in collaboration with another student for our Urbanites podcast. Together, they devised the plot, wrote the script, and cast the voices for the audio performance. The final product was an audio drama published (in two separate episodes) in the Urbanites podcast. She was also selected to represent Urbana and The Reporter as moderator of the Q&A Session with Dave Barry at the Florida College System Publications Association virtual conference on January 29th, 2021. Additionally, she wrote and contributed two of her own original pieces for the newly installed Urbana blog, which are scheduled to be published on a weekly basis. Ashlie doesn’t miss a meeting, and her feedback is always on point. At Urbana, we are fortunate to have Ashlie as an editor and contributor. She is also a staff writer for The Reporter.
As secretary of the YES! (Youth for Environmental Sustainability) Club at Padron Campus, Ashlie helped to create and organize college-wide virtual and volunteering events such as creating a garden out of scratch for the Lotus House Women’s Shelter and cleaning Vizcaya Museum and Gardens to promote a greener and more sustainable community, with a mission statement of highlighting the importance of sustainability and biological diversity while educating others about natural ecosystems and their intrinsic value. As part of The Honors College, she also served as co-host for a student-led colloquium discussing issues of race and the rise of white nationalism. Ashlie is an engaged member of her campus and college community, and she has a bright future ahead in the communications and journalism profession.”
Congratulations to Ashlie Rodriguez, our Publications Student of the Month, and thank you to Ms. Sendin for nominating her!
