Congratulations to one of the Publications Division Students of the Month for April... Daniel Cheer from Pensacola State College! Daniel was nominated by his advisor, Paula Ingram.
Here's what Paula told us about Daniel: "Of all the student editors that I have worked with, I think Daniel Cheer has faced the greatest obstacles. Daniel became editor of The Corsair in May 2020, in the midst of the pandemic. At that point, students were not allowed on campus, so staff meetings were conducted via Zoom. Daniel kept the team together with good cheer, encouraging and prodding students to stay committed. He initiated events like movie nights where staff members would watch a movie together, each from their own home. When students were allowed back on campus for the spring semester, most student activities and classes were still conducted via Zoom. This presented challenges: many of our staff were not on campus, there were few activities to cover, and the paper was not allowed to print. Daniel continued to keep staff connected via email, texts, and calls. He incorporated podcasts into The Corsair repertoire and switched our fall issues to an online newsletter. The Corsair returned to print in January and Daniel smoothly reestablished standard operating procedures while conducting staff meetings online and in-person simultaneously. During stressful and pivotal times throughout the last few semesters at PSC, Daniel's easy-going yet professional demeanor has been influential in boosting his fellow writers' and staff members' morale. He has shown great leadership skills while holding the position of editor of The Corsair, and his positive, encouraging influence has created an uplifting atmosphere among the entire Corsair staff, which has resulted in a focused and productive newsroom. Daniel's position as an editor has been instrumental to The Corsair's continued successful publication, which is why I am nominating him for the Florida College System Publications Association student of the month. Daniel is involved in campus activities including auditioning for and performing in the play "Trifles" at the Ashmore Auditorium. He also performed a stand-up comedy routine at PSC Got Talent, the annual student talent show."
Incredible! Congratulations to this incredible student, Daniel Cheer, and our thanks to Ms. Ingram for nominating him.
