Congratulations to the Music Student of the Month for February... Milier Hernandez from Miami Dade College! Milier was nominated by his advisor, Leo Walz. Here is what Leo shared with us about Milier:
"I have known Milier for approximately 1 year as a student in my music theory classes. He is an intelligent, inquisitive, and especially industrious young man. He is a proficient saxophonist (all voices) in both classical and jazz. His desire to continually improve his craft is evidenced by his participation in the MDC Concert Band and Rhythm and Blues ensembles, as well as the South Florida Youth Symphony and other community-based ensembles in the Miami area. Milier was selected for the Jazz Band (tenor sax) at the competitive Florida College System Activities Association Winter Symposium. He also helped to create the most recent incarnation of the MDC Saxophone Ensemble.
Probably most impressive about Milier is his “Miller’s (sic) Big Band.” His love of jazz led him to form a fully staffed big band comprised of his fellow students and other musicians from the community. The Band rehearses perform regularly. A recent performance at Florida International University was particularly impressive – it can be described as an “Andre Rieu meets Glenn Miller” event. With this ensemble he has proven himself a skilled director/conductor and instrumental soloist."
Congratulations, Milier! Our thanks to Mr. Walz for nominating him for this recognition!
