Congratulations to Vanessa Okechuku, a student at Florida State College at Jacksonville- Kent Campus! Vanessa is our March 2016 Student Government Division Student of the Month!
Here’s what Vanessa's advisor, Ashlie Barker, shared with us about her: “Vanessa has exemplified what it means to be a student leader. Through recent SGA turnover, Vanessa stepped up from the Senator 1 position to the President position. Within her first 2 weeks in her new role, she led an outstanding FSCJ E-Board meeting with special guests from Relay for Life and the College's Director of Government and Community Engagement. Vanessa lead a bystander intervention training when called upon unexpectedly during the November FCSSGA Legislative Conference and continues to interact with the student body in creative ways to help increase student engagement participation. Vanessa maintains a 4.0 in her academics and is always eager to participate in opportunities to represent FSCJ on campus and in the community. Vanessa is poised, well-spoken, and eager to learn and excel in her new position of SGA Kent Campus President.
Vanessa has had the opportunity to meet with the Campus Administration to discuss the “Wildly Important Goals” for the year and discuss student engagement ideas and strategies along with the SGA Vice President. Vanessa works well with all members of the FSCJ SGA, Student Ambassadors, and student workers within the Student Life and Leadership department. Vanessa believes in the work SGA does for the student body and works tirelessly to ensure she is the best representative for them she can be. She has been placed in a unique position in which she has the ability to appoint several open officer positions within the SGA. She takes her time to get to know each applicant, asks dynamic and intuitive questions, and seeks council from other members established within SGA before making a final decision. She values making decisions that are in the group’s best interest. Vanessa has been an invaluable asset to the organization and is a shining star with bright things ahead in her future.”
Congratulations again, Vanessa!
