Congratulations to our 2017 Florida College System Activities Association Hall of Fame class and our 2017 Distinguished Service Awardee! Hall of Fame 2017:
Walter Fitzpatrick began his role as Student Activities Coordinator at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) South Campus in 1994 and retired in 2013. He frequently presented at the FCCSGA conferences as his True Colors and Time Management presentations were well attended by students across the State. Walter was a facilitator at the FSCJ Outdoor Education Center for nearly 20 years and led transformational and experiential learning opportunities for FSCJ students, FSCJ staff, community nonprofit organizations, and corporate clients alike. After retiring from FSCJ in 2013, Walter returned a year a later to serve the students of FSCJ by providing guidance on class selection and negotiating the enrollment process as a Student Success Advisor.
Elena Jarvis, Daytona State College, is a veteran feature writer, columnist and editor with more than three decades of professional experience for news organizations such as Gannett, The E.W. Scripps Company and the Times Mirror Company. A former president, vice-president and all-around champion energizer for the Florida College System Publications Association, Elena has been the consummate professional to her students, colleagues and peer advisors. She maintains positive relationships with sponsors, goes the extra mile for local & state support of student publications and has always been available to provide insight and information.
Rochelle Popp-Finch has been serving the students of Indian River State College since 2011 as the Coordinator of Student Activities. Prior to IRSC, Rochelle served as the Assistant Director of Student Involvement and Leadership at FAU. In addition to her experience in Student Life as a professional, Rochelle served in various student government leadership roles throughout her college journey as a student. Her most fond memories of being involved was when she served as the FCSSGA District 2 Coordinator and the Campus Coalition Government President at IRSC, and it is for her involvement as a student that she is being inducted into the FSCAA Hall of Fame.
George Sanders has served on the FCSAA Executive Committee in several capacities, including Conference Chair, Council for Athletic Affairs chair, and as an At-Large representative. He has served as the Women’s Commissioner and NJCAA Region 8 Women’s Director since 2012. George has given tremendous guidance with 14 national tournament appearances and more than 45 FCSAA State Tournament appearances. This past June (2017) George celebrated his 30th year of service to our member colleges and students in which it serves. He was nominated for induction into the FCSAA Hall of Fame by the Council of Athletic Affairs.
Distinguished Service Award 2017:
Charles W. Hall, Ed.D. served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Florida Gateway College, formerly Lake City Community College from 1997-2015. While at FGC, he was committed to providing superior instruction, nurturing individual development and enriching the community through quality higher education programs and lifelong learning opportunities. Dr. Hall retired in June 2015, and the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to grant him the title President Emeritus at his retirement for serving with distinction, dedication and commitment to the students, faculty, staff and community over the last 18 years at Florida Gateway College. He was inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame in 2015 and is now receiving the FCSAA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award.
