Congratulations to Ben Harrison, Santa Fe College, for being named Brain Bowl Division Student of the Month for December 2015. He was nominated by his Brain Bowl Coach, Dr. Asha Brunings.
Here’s what Dr. Brunings shared with us about Ben: “Ben joined the Brain Bowl team in March 2014, toward the end of the semester when Santa Fe College's team was reactivated. Initially Ben was somewhat intimidated by the process, and for the first two practices, he didn't answer a single question. Over the summer Ben studied hard and practiced twice a week, gaining confidence and expertise. He signed up for courses in topics he would otherwise not have taken, he was the only one on the team who attended both practice sessions every week, and his stats improved dramatically throughout the semester. In the Fall, he became the team captain and really excelled. He has superb judgment and knows when to defer to his teammates.
Moreover, I've been impressed by Ben's varied interests and ability to lead a balanced life. He travels with his band, performing throughout the East, takes courses in many different topics, works as a laboratory assistant at the College (and goes above and beyond the job description to perform his duties), and volunteers as a tutor for his classmates. Ben provides leadership to the team and serves both his team and the college. Ben is transferring to the University of Florida in the spring, and will be sorely missed.”
Congratulations to this outstanding student, and our thanks to Dr. Brunings for taking the time to nominate him for this recognition.
