Pasco-Hernando Community College’s Jose Alonzo is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Player of the Week. Alonzo, a freshman from Spring Hill, Fla., batted .625 (5-for-8) with two runs scored, one home run and two RBI in three games during the voting period. Alonzo enjoyed a solid weekend against NJCAA No. 1 (D1) Tallahassee on April 26-28, hitting safely in all three games. He was 2-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored in the opener. He had another multi-hit effort in game two, going 2-for-2 with another run driven in and a pair of walks. In the series finale, he was 1-for-2 and walked twice more.

Polk State College’s Matt Pearce is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Pearce, a freshman from Bonita Springs, Fla., was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in one appearance during the voting period. Pearce pitched a three-hit shutout in the Eagles’ 4-0 win over South Florida State on April 26. He walked none, struck out two and faced only one batter over the minimum en route to his third straight complete game.
